Daddy needs my help on taxes. I helped with the filing system.
Where is that social security number? I'm sure I put it here somewhere.
Nope, that's just trash. Daddy sure does need my help. I don't know how he did it without me.
This is my tax face. It sure is exhausting work.
For those of you who don't know, K is a beautiful little girl who was affected by Amniotic Band Syndrome (ABS). She was born with a malformed arm and several other problems related to the ABS.

Our Baby is Back!!!
Here is a before picture of K with her lovely hives.
Here is K with her little outfit from Aunt Joy. It has roses all over it and of course she looked beautiful.
I'm showing off my hive free legs. Life is good now!
Don't you wish you were here? K is doing so much better now. It is like we have a totally different baby. I told Nate that it is obvious now that K wasn't herself last week because she has transformed into "cutie" again. I am very thankful she feels better, but we still have no idea what caused the reaction. It could have been the medicine, the wheat, but we have no idea and we may never know. I have done this myself several times and we still have no idea what caused it. Thank you for all of your prayers and encouraging words. We really appreciate it.

K is Better
She is doing much better now and she is not on steroids anymore. She was a rather fussy child over the past five days that she has been on steroids. It was almost like having a one year old who became an instant teenager as far as the attitude goes. We will get more pictures on here soon. It has been a busy week.

Some Improvement
We ended up taking K to the doctor again this morning because when she got up she was pretty much red all over. It looked awful and she was obviously uncomfortable. The doctor put her on some steroids on top of the antihistamines she is already on and as you can see from the picture, it seems to be working. She is still red around her body, but her face at least is clearing up. She is starting to look a little bit more normal. Not the little polka dot baby we have had the past few days. Please keep praying that she will get over this quickly.

Please Pray for K
***Update***K is continuing to get worse. We find ourselves wondering if she is going to turn completely red by the time this is done and over. In the past hour she has gotten worse. We are waiting for the on-call doctor to call us back. Please pray this gets better.
She started out with a bad reaction to some medicine that we believe was set off by wheat bread. We started giving her Benadryl and thought it would get better.
It did not. This is what she looks like and it is not getting better as far as we can see. The doctor saw her first thing this morning and gave her some allergy medicine on top of the Benadryl and it is not cutting it.
She is scratching her legs (as you can see she is covered by the hives). She wont sleep. She is a very uncomfortable baby. Please pray for her that she will get better soon. If things don't improve by morning we are supposed to call the doctor and so far it looks like he will be getting a call.

Home Today
Today was a "snow day" for mommy so the family stayed home and hung out today. In our hanging out we discovered that K has a food allergy and we believe it is wheat bread. She currently has hives on arms, legs and head but not her body. Weird, I know. But then when has K ever been normal? So she is an itchy little girl not in a photogenic mood. Here are some pictures from within the past two months. This was a Christmas picture.
Here K was in Indiana for a day or two to visit family for the holiday.
Here is K in her first bath after the surgery. Her arm continues to do better. Now it does not look as angry as it does in this picture. Most of the stitches are still in and have not come off yet.
Here is K at her party. She was having fun talking to aunt Susan.
K is checking out what the inside of her bag looks like. It is just the right size.

A Year Gone By
Well, we no longer have a cast on. We went to the Shriners today and they cut the cast off this afternoon. She did really well with the cast saw, which I was afraid of myself. She is such the trooper. We now have a second surgery scheduled for the beginning of April and we go back at the beginning of February to get her cast for a back brace, which won't be done until later that month. This will be worn underneath her clothing and it can come off for baths and swimming. As Nate and I were driving back today, we started to think about how different our life is now. It was around this time last year that I was in labor and K was on her way into the world. Little did we know then what we were in store for. Sometimes, a lot of times, it has been a rough year, but this little rose is one that I will gladly take with all of the thorns. K's smile and personality have endeared her to so many people and I know she will continue to do that to anyone else who is fortunate enough to meet her. It has been a hard time and I did find myself wondering what "normal" must be like. "Normal" at the end of this year is "K." I think it's just right. As our life begins to change in the next few months, we are so grateful that we have been chosen to take care of our little rose.

K's First Birthday (Party 1 and 2)
These pictures are out of sync, but I think you can catch on to it. K enjoyed the second cake a little more than the first.
The aftermath.
I am princess for the day. It is all about me you know.
She still has discolored fingers. Guess it will wear off eventually.
I just I thought I would include this picture because she is just so cute.
Here is one of the pictures from the first birthday party in Alabama. As you can see, K enjoyed the icing more than anything else.
Here K is opening a present from Nana (her baby sitter). She enjoyed just walking around the package more than anything else.
What a cool toy! K really enjoys it. She can't reach the pedals yet, but some day she will. Some day too soon.

My Party is Tomorrow!!!
K has an ear infection, but she is doing great. The doctor has her on antibiotics and she is feeling much better. She took an almost 2 1/2 hour nap this afternoon at daycare so I think she is feeling better. Her party is tomorrow and we have quite a few people dropping by. Even Great Uncle Dennis and Aunt Susie are coming! All the way from Birmingham! K is so excited to see them. I will be sure to put up plenty of pictures from her cake eating day.

Ear Infection...Maybe?
Focus on the baby. K is really working on the standing now. That is where she would like to be the majority of the time. Sitting on the floor is no longer the "in" thing.
Check out those chunky legs!!! Just thought I would share her cute little legs with the world.
I can't get that block! I know I put it in there, but I can't seem to pull it out! Kind of like the monkey with his hand in the jar trying to get the cookies out without letting them go.
I wonder if I could kiss that cute little baby? She sure looks cute in that table!
Sorry it has taken awhile to get a blog up. K's cast is beginning to come off and so we are resorting to keeping her cast on by putting her in long sleeves. So far it is working and we only have to make it to Monday! We think she might have an ear infection, but we are going to the doctor to find out for sure. Her birthday party is on Saturday and so I have been getting that stuff together. Needless to say it has been a busy week so far. I didn't realize how much work a birthday party really was! Who knew?

Just Hanging Out With Some Toys

Christmas was Fun Fun Fun!
Here K is trying her first sugar cookie. She managed to polish off quite a few over her stay at grandmom's and granddaddy's.
Check out K's teeth. We are working on tooth number 7.
Here is K with all of her loot. She figured out how to unwrap presents quite effectively.
K loves her Uncle Eric. I think she is trying to climb him all on her own.
This is K right before her Christmas Eve appearance at grandmom and granddaddy's church. She was a big hit.
Momma G finished up K's luggage. She found out that you can fit in a duffle bag very easily. It isn't as fun as crawling around though.
Aunt Amy got this cool chair and K tried to eat it. That would have been really bad for an inflatable chair.
K's little outfit made her look like a candy cane. Almost eatable herself. If many of you did not know, we actually surprised my parents for Christmas. They had thought we were going to come down on Christmas Eve after church, but we came instead on that Friday. Talk about a great surprise! We stood at their door and sang "We Wish You a Merry Christmas." We had a great visit and I know we are going to miss the time spent with K. I think we both got a little spoiled with all of the K time.
